Colin Spender
Colin has been involved with training dogs professionally
for over 20 years. He is a Home office qualified and accredited
Police dog Instructor,(H.Dip PDI) and currently still trains dogs
as Force dog training Instructor for Dorset police.
Colin holds the Advanced Certificate in Education (Adv Cert Ed)
with Canterbury Christ Church University and is also an expert witness
in Dangerous Dogs Legislation (D.L.O.) dealing with Dangerous dogs
as part of his role within the Police service.
Colin has a passion for his involvement within the forces puppy
programme caring for a bringing on puppies alongside operational
working Police dogs. He has worked successfully a number of General
Purpose police dogs as well as a dual trained narcotics dogs and
specialist narcotics detection dogs.
Colin is responsible for General patrol dogs, specialist
search dogs, firearms support dogs in addition to being a dog assessor
and puppy walker for the force, bringing on the puppies and sometimes
gift dogs, training them to the required standard to be able to
complete the Initial police dog course.
He is currently completing a Ba Hons Degree with the CIDBT in association
with Middlesex University as a Canine Behaviour Practitioner. He
spends a good deal of his free time helping owners to overcome behavioural
problems and obtain a better relationship with their dogs with training
advice and guidance. Using his knowledge base and as importantly
hands on experience, he is able to help modify undesired behaviours
from their dogs, help educate owners to better understand and read
their dogs on a dog to dog communicative basis, enabling the dogs
and owners to rehabilitate themselves for a more peaceful life together.
