Trevor Cooper

Guild Advisor

Trevor has been qualified as a Solicitor for nearly 23 years and has been regarded as a specialist in the law on dogs for 16 years. He is particularly well known for defending dangerous dog cases, but his knowledge extends to most civil and criminal canine disputes. His most famous ‘clients’ have been death row cases which have included:-

Dempsey (the pit bull whose muzzle was removed to allow her to be sick)

Woofie (a Scottish dog that was on death row for having barked at a postman)

Dino (a GSD who bit a lady who intervened in a dog fight).

(He was also a consultant for BBC1’s Eastenders when Wellard bit Ian Beale as they had a storyline on the Dangerous Dogs Act!)

He is currently a Principal Solicitor for the Environment Agency, for which he is a prosecutor on cases throughout the North-East of England. He still finds the time to act for dog owners in his ‘spare time’, runs the website www.doglaw.co.uk and provides a legal advice-line Monday to Thursday evenings.

Trevor is regularly in demand by the media to give commentary on doglaw issues and from both professionals and dog clubs to present seminars on the law on dogs.
