Guild of Dog Trainers Professional Development programme
There are certain skills you need to begin a career as a Dog Obedience
Trainer or Instructor. The Guild of Dog Trainers in association
with the Cambridge
Institute of Dog Behaviour & Training have put together
the first University Dog Obedience Trainer / Instructor Certificate
which helps you learn conveniently and at your own level and pace.
We feel privileged to have been asked to help with this organisation:
National Dog Training Instructors Certificate
This certificate is for all instructors within the obedience disciplines training puppies or adult dogs. So if you’re a club trainer, a puppy school trainer or a professional dog trainer, old or new, this certificate will formalise your experience with a nationally recognised qualification.
The following two modules make up this qualification and you will be issued with a certificate from the CIDBT.
Professional Dog Instructor Skills and Management
This module is designed to teach you how to set up, manage and teach a professional dog / puppy training class. Although dog handling and training are covered the emphases is on how to teach a class, or an individual, rather than how to train a dog. As such the student must have dog puppy handling and training experience or have completed the module ‘Introduction to canine care and behaviour’.
The final phase of this exciting three phase module is a one day practical (hands-on) workshop.
Common Canine Behaviour Problems
Through this film-led distance learning module, delegates will gain an understanding of the complex array of common canine behaviour problems. We look in-depth at the problems presented to a Canine Behaviour Practitioner and the causes, compounding factors and solutions to those problems.
This is a work-based programme that includes self-study, analysis and evaluation of information and ideas. This module is completely distance learning based with no workshop days to attend.
You do have to have experience to attend modules at university level
and therefore the certificate is designed for people who have at
least 6 months hands on experience in dog training, private, club,
school or other similar level. You can however, study around your
current work schedule making these courses flexible.
Should you decide after completing these modules that you wish
to progress to a Degree or HE Diploma with Middlesex University,
the CIDBT can advise you how to convert them to accredited modules
to count towards your higher education qualification.
