The Guild of Dog Trainers

balanced intelligent dog training

At the Guild

we believe that in order for the dog to be able to relax and have a stress free life the dog needs, more than anything to be treated like a dog and know its place in its mixed-species pack.

We are currently campaigning to allow dogs to be dogs, provide structure and training in their life and not to be drawn into the current thinking in Great Britain (and around the world) that dogs can live in our homes without boundaries, rules and limitations

Over the last decade or so dog training has changed drastically in Great Britain. Dog owners are getting confused and frustrated and more dogs than ever are being deemed un-trainable or so badly behaved that they are either being drugged up, handed in to rescue centres or are being put to sleep.

Dog owners (and trainers) are being led astray by behaviourists and trainers with the same good intent that prevented teachers being able to discipline children and the same disastrous effects are now happening in the dog world.

Not only is the Guild is committed to maintaining and improving the quality of dog training, behaviour and companion dog ownership but we’ve been extensively involved in defining the roles for dog behaviour and training professionals that was recently published by the Pet Education, Training & Behaviour Council of Great Britain (PETbc).

The Guild believes that there are some excellent trainers in Great Britain and we’re trying to unite them and promote common sense values.

We feel that professional trainers deserve to be acknowledged by an organisation as a trainer and to have their craft and skills accepted in the profession.

To be recognised by their peers and to be a part of an organisation that is standing up for the rights of trainers nationally.

Our motto is "Lead by example. Teach, that you may learn", and we commit to continued professional learning of the behaviour of dogs and their sometimes complex relationships with people.

If you would like to join the Guild at one of our membership levels, please complete an application pack

We support and welcome applications from all of the dog training disciplines:
