Joe's passion is rescue dogs and he currently works with his local RSPCA where he runs rehabilitation classes and offers advice
Joe has a lifelong association with dogs and currently lives with his numerous canine companions, three of which he has recently adopted. These three dogs were not deemed eligible for re-homing and as such their fate had been sealed. His passion is rescue dogs and he currently works with his local RSPCA where he runs rehabilitation classes and offers advice to staff, prospective owners and the owners of recently re-homed dogs who are not settling in as well as they might.
His experience with dogs has taught him that it’s easier to get a dog to do something positive than it is to prevent them doing something negative. His training groups focus on motivation for both the owner and the dog. Once the dog and owner are sufficiently motivated, and are beginning to work together, he then teaches the owner how to shape the behaviour into something more compatible with the owners’ expectations.
He strongly believes that dog training should be fun. Many owners do not have any great expectations for their dogs, in the way of competition work, so sessions should be lighthearted, motivational and enjoyable for both dog and owner. Put simply, if both dog and owner enjoy the experience a positive outcome is easier to achieve.
