Pamela has spent a lifetime with dogs and currently shares her home and life with, two basset fauve de Bretagnes’ (‘Fauves’) and a juvenile Tibetan Mastiff.
She spent nearly 20 years of her working life as a lawyer, when several years ago she acquired her first Fauve. She then embarked on the usual training class trail only to find that she was confronted with a one size fits all approach and was unable to find anyone locally with a good understanding of the breed, as a result training not surprisingly did not initially go well.
Undaunted and determined to gain an understanding of canine psychology and breed specific behaviours, Pamela embarked on a journey that was to become a new and rewarding career in dog psychology and training.
Pamela has undertaken her academic studies with the Cambridge Institute of Dog Behaviour which are ongoing, she holds both a Professional Dog Training Certificate and certification in Canine Care and Behaviour. She is currently studying various common behavioural issues and also concentrating her studies on dog aggression and its many causes.
What type of trainer is Pamela? Many catchphrases are flying around at present, modern, reward based, clicker trainers etc.. creating quite an array of confusion for the public.
Pamela likes think that she approaches training a dog with a holistic approach, helping you to understand your individual dog as a whole, it’s inherent drives and the basics of how dogs think and learn. This information, will give the owner the basic tools that they need to train their dog effectively.
She believes that teaching a dog new behaviours is often like teaching someone to dance. A motivational approach incorporating kindness, encouragement and fun, keeps them interested. A good relationship with your dog is essential to effective training and Pamela believes in establishing yourself as a benevolent leader, being understanding and fair but firm, which strengthens the bond between dog and owner.
